Divorce in Ukraine. Family Law Proceedings
MAIN TYPES OF DIVORCE
(FOR CITIZENS OF UKRAINE AND FOREIGN NATIONALS)
Divorce is a legal process of dissolving a marriage between spouses. It may be initiated by one or both parties and results in the termination of legal and social obligations arising from the marriage.
- Divorce by mutual consent. If both spouses agree to the divorce and do not have minor children together, they may submit a joint application to the Civil Registry Office. The procedure usually takes one month, after which the marriage is officially dissolved.
- Divorce through court. If the spouses have minor children together or if one of the parties does not agree to the divorce, it is necessary to apply to the court.
In cases where one or both spouses are abroad and do not intend to return to Ukraine to dissolve the marriage (whether they are Ukrainian citizens or foreign nationals), we are ready to represent your interests at all stages of the court proceedings.

- Residence permit in Ukraine with a certificate of registered address (for foreign nationals).
The cost of divorce services in Ukraine is UAH 13,000.00 (plus court fees).
CHILD SUPPORT IN DIVORCE
Recovery of child support is a legal procedure aimed at ensuring financial maintenance of children by the parent who does not reside with them. Ukrainian legislation guarantees a child’s right to financial support regardless of the personal or property relations between the parents. The process of obtaining child support may be initiated voluntarily or enforced through the court. In any case, it is important to act within the legal framework to protect the child’s interests.
We provide a full range of legal services and support in the process of awarding child support, increasing/decreasing its amount, and enforcing court decisions.
The cost of services for awarding, increasing/decreasing, or recovering child support is determined individually for each case, depending on its specifics.
DIVISION OF PROPERTY IN DIVORCE
Division of property in divorce is one of the most sensitive and legally complex processes arising from the dissolution of a marriage or the actual termination of co-habitation.
As a general rule, property jointly owned by spouses under joint ownership is divided equally. It is important to understand the origin of joint ownership rights, as they arise by operation of law rather than by a court decision. Issues of property division and deviation from equal shares may be resolved:
- by agreement between the spouses;
- through court proceedings on the grounds established by law.
If the spouses cannot reach a mutual agreement regarding the division of property, we are ready to take on the full burden of the court process related to such division.
The cost of property division services through court starts from UAH 18,000.00 (excluding costs of expert examinations, court fees, and other expenses) and depends on the complexity and specifics of the case.
